
Stephen Jeffreys began his Playwriting Masterclass in 2003. Its alumnae includes some of the biggest names in contemporary British Theatre.
Who is the course for?
Stephen Jeffreys’ Playwriting Masterclass is designed to be stimulating, entertaining and career-changing for anyone from the experienced playwright to the beginner. The course is also accessible and useful for directors, actors, literary managers, and people involved in any aspect of creative theatre-making.
What’s the format?
There are two formats – an intensive weekend course, or a day course over three Sundays. The Weekend Masterclass is intensive and is limited to 30 participants, so that each participant can ask questions about their own work to Stephen. It is held in the luxurious Radisson Edwardian Hampshire hotel in Leicester Square. It costs £300.
The Day Masterclass is more flexible, for those who prefer to break up their learning or who want to brush up on a particular aspect of their writing. Up to 70 participants can attend each day. It is held in the Tristan Bates Theatre, at the Actors Centre in Covent Garden. The cost is £50 per day, or £120 for three days. You can choose to attend just one, two or all three days.
What will I learn?
There are classes on Time and Place Structure, Experimental Structures, Making a Scene, Subtext, Character, Dialogue and Classic Myths (more details here).
When is the next Masterclass?
There will be two Masterclasses in 2011. A Weekend Masterclass from the 10th-12th June 2011. There will be a Day Masterclass in the Autumn. Dates TBC.
